LOVE IS...

The cartoon, 'Love is...'  was a comic strip started by New zealand cartoonist Kim Casali, (previously Grove) in the late 1960s. It began as a series of love notes, Casali drew for her future husband, Roberto Casali. 

It was first published in 1970 under the pen name Kim.

It is said that at the height of it's popularity, it may have been earning Casali, £4 to£5 million a year!

Roberto Casali was diagnosed with terminal cancer in 1975. Kim then asked British cartoonist Bill Asprey to continue her cartoon. Kim Casali died in 1997, her son Stefano then took over intellectual rights of  'Love is...'

Enid Blyton's Noddy

I have always loved Noddy and now that I am older, this has not changed. I loved him when I was a child. I read his books, watched him on tv and, I believe I once entered a fancy dress competition, dressed as him.

Recently, I found a lovely old book from the 1950s full of wonderful Noddy illustrations of the little chap himself. Unfortunately, it had seen better days. Not to worry! I have rescued the wonderful illustrations and am turning them into ready to frame pictures.

Spent the rest of the day, adding some of my great new stock into my newest shop, Vic's Vintage Ephemera.

The Scar Project...Fighting cancer all the way.

I first heard of this on Facebook, so I looked them up and was so moved by what I saw, that I wanted to share it with you.

The SCAR Project is a series of large-scale portraits of young breast cancer survivors shot by fashion photographer David Jay. Primarily an awareness raising campaign, The SCAR Project puts a raw, unflinching face on early onset breast cancer while paying tribute to the courage and spirit of so many brave young women

St Edward's Crown...Coronation Crown.

This crown is the most important of all the crown jewels. It is with this crown that the monarch is crowned at the ceremony of the coronation.

The original crown was melted down during Oliver Cromwell’s rule. When the monarchy was restored on 29th May, 1660, new regalia had to be made before there could be a coronation. A copy was instructed to be made, to be traditionally used at the actual moment of crowning, but never worn again during the reign.

The crown is made of solid gold. Up until George V’s coronation it was set with paste stones and enamel mounts, In 1911, for the coronation of George V the crown was perminently set with semi-precious stones, and the imitation pearls were replaced with gold beads, which were plated with platinum.

Later the platinum plating wore off revealing the gold beads. The crown has a velvet “Cap of Estate” and a faux ermine boarderOur replica is made as near as possible to the original.

Great importance is paid to every detail of the crown. It is made of base metal, gold plated and set with best quality crystal stones.

The Coronation Gown...

The coronation gown was ordered in October 1952.

It was designed by Norman Hartnell.

It took 8 months of research, design and work to complete.

A team of 3 dressmakers, 6 embroideresses and the Royal School of Needlework prepared the gown.

It was made from satin, at the Queen's request and embroidered with gold bullion thread, seed pearls, crystals and coloured silks.

The embroidery was of floral emblems of the countries in the UK and Commonwealth countries.
