Pinterest

I held out for quite some time. Every body kept telling me about Pinterest and how much I would love it...and that was the whole point. I own Vintage Vic's and it takes up a great deal of time. I have to source vintage cards and illustrations, to make my new greetings cards and ready to frame illustrations from. Then make the new items. I also sell vintage books and lifestyle items, which first I have to find. Then, I have to keep up to date on my web site, Vintage Vic Facebook, run my Etsy shop and blog. I do vintage fairs and constantly work on getting Vintage Vic's noticed, in a very overcrowded market.

I am married, have two teenage children, a home and a cat to care for! I also work part time in a library. Already there are not enough hours in the day. I did not have time for Pinterest...

So anyway, at the moment I am pinning on about 20 boards! Yep, they got me in the end. I was just going to have a quick look, to see what all the fuss was about! That was it, I was hooked. Now, every time I see something great, on the Internet, I reach for my Pin It button.

Lots of my boards are dedicated to vintage. Bet that shocked you! I have vintage cards, vintage illustrators, vintage brides... There are others though. Music, cakes, home decor, outdoor fun, I just add as I think of a new one.

If you are also a fan of Pinterest, I would love you to leave me a comment, pointing me at your boards. I love to browse and maybe re pin a few!

This is my latest board, so far. A tribute to someone I have admired all my life.

Getting to Know You!

The chosen theme for this blog is Vintage and Handmade everything! However, so far I haven't said a lot about me, or Vintage Vic's. Every so often, I shall now add some little bits and pieces, that are more personal chatter. I am good at chatter!

Vintage Vic's has just had it's FIRST BIRTHDAY!

Things are going well!

The first item I ever sold online, was this gorgeous engagement card, last May...

Since then, I have made many sales.

I work in an office from home. It used to be our fourth bedroom. It is small, but it has everything I need for now!
Here are a few little insights into the 'nerve centre' of Vintage Vic's!

My Dad is a carpenter, so he and my husband, Mark, built me this fantastic wall of shelves, they stretch right across the back wall. I try my best to keep them tidy, but I don't always succeed!

I don't sell every vintage treasure I find. Some I keep right here.

My little Kewpie doll, sits on a rag coaster that my daughter, Phoebe made me at Primary school. The gorgeous Christmas card, in the frame, was given to me, as a child by my parents. I love it so much, I keep it on display, all year. The little deer, I bought to sell on, but just couldn't give them up!

The tins I also intended to sell. I'm not sure about the others, but I shall never part with my Wilkins Red Boy...

'Dreamland'

I keep my paint brushes, in this ice cream tub. Wedding cake flavour ice cream, that we served our guests at our Royal wedding party for William and Kate.

This vintage wedding cake topper was also used at our Royal Wedding Party. I made red, white and blue cupcakes, and topped the display, with this lovely old bride and groom!

I use this wonderful, battered old case, to transport cards etc if I do a vintage fair.

My Dad gave this great car to my husband, during his wedding speech!

Another vintage tin, I decided not to sell!

Over my desk. The framed picture is a Vintage Vic, ready to frame vintage illustration, that I decided to use myself. The vintage frame is from a local junk shop.

A cluttered corner, of my desk!

My pin board could do with a little 'weeding'.

I still manage to loose track of time!

A pile of vintage books, waiting to be sorted and placed in
Vintage Vic's.

So, that's Vintage Vic's for know. I wonder what the next year will bring!

Nancy Carroll...1930s Icon

She was christened Ann Veronica Lahiff in New York City. Of Irish parentage, she and her sister once performed a dancing act in a local contest of amateur talent. This led her to a stage career and then to the screen. She began her acting career in Broadway musicals. She became a successful actress in "talkies" because her musical background enabled her to play in the movie musicals of the 1930s. Her film debut was in Ladies Must Dress in 1927.
In 1928 she made eight films. One of them, Easy Come, Easy Go, co-starring Richard Dix, made her a star. In 1930 she was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Actress forThe Devil's Holiday. Among her other films are Laughter (1930), Paramount on Parade(1930), Hot Saturday (1932) with Cary Grant and Randolph ScottThe Kiss Before the Mirror (1933) directed by James Whale, and Broken Lullaby aka The Man I Killed (1932) directed by Ernst Lubitsch.
Under contract to Paramount Pictures, Carroll often balked at the roles being offered to her and earned a reputation as a recalcitrant and uncooperative actress. In spite of her ability to successfully tackle light comedies, tearful melodramas, and even musicals, and as well as garnering considerable praise by the critics and public (she received the most fan mail of any star in the early 1930s), she was released by the studio. In the mid-1930s under a four-film contract with Columbia Pictures, she made four rather insignificant films and was no longer an A-list actress.
Carroll retired from films in 1938, returned to the stage, and starred in the early television series The Aldrich Family in 1950. In the following year, she guest starred in the television version of The Egg and I, starring her daughter, Patricia Kirkland.
On August 6, 1965, she was found dead after failing to arrive at the theater for a performance. The cause of her death was an aneurysm. She was 61 years old.
For her contributions to the motion picture industry, Nancy Carroll has a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame at 1719 Vine Street

(The above film clip includes footage of trying on fur coats, of which I do not approve. However, it was a part of the era. None the less, if this would upset you, probably best to not watch it.)
